MELODY Collection is located in Valtournenche, in the heart of the Aosta Valley, surrounded by an Alpine landscape defined by rock formations, forests and open views across the valley.
When LAVICA was appointed, the site already featured a partially built structure: two levels of slabs and columns constructed according to a previous design.
The challenge was to work with this existing framework, completely reinterpret it and integrate it into a new five-storey architectural project capable of establishing a strong identity while remaining deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
The clients, four Israeli investors, envisioned transforming the existing structure into a new hospitality destination in Valtournenche: a contemporary retreat dedicated to the mountains, wellness and a complete year-round guest experience.
The name MELODY comes from music: it is the title of one of the investors’ most successful songs.
This became the starting point for defining not only the aesthetic language of the hotel, but its entire identity.
The ambition was to transform Melody from a name into an architectural language.
LAVICA developed MELODY Collection as a comprehensive project, encompassing architecture, interior design, landscape and concept design, with the aim of creating one distinctive language extending from the building’s exterior to the smallest interior details.
Music becomes architecture through rhythm, repetition and variation.
The façade reinterprets the graphic sequence of a piano keyboard through an irregular alternation of solids and voids: wider openings evoke the proportions of white keys, while narrower windows punctuate the composition like black keys.
The same principle is repeated throughout the project, from the custom-designed railings to lighting features and bespoke interior elements, creating a continuous visual rhythm that connects architecture and interiors.
MELODY was conceived to belong to its landscape.
The main tone of the façade draws from the colours of the surrounding rock, while red accents reference the characteristic Alpine vegetation and flowers of the Aosta Valley.
The architecture is designed to evolve with its surroundings: immersed in snow during the ski season and framed by rock, forests and vegetation throughout the warmer months, when Valtournenche becomes a destination for hiking and climbing.
The project unfolds across multiple levels and includes hotel rooms, apartments, a lobby, lounge areas, guest facilities and an entire floor dedicated to SPA and wellness.
One of its defining features is the SPA’s indoor-outdoor swimming pool. The water extends through the building envelope towards the exterior, opening onto the valley and the surrounding forest landscape.
The accommodation is organised around three distinctive guest experiences:
Harmony — a hotel room designed for two guests.
Symphony — a one-bedroom apartment featuring a living area with kitchen, dining space and sofa bed, accommodating up to four guests.
Melody — a suite conceived for up to six guests, with two double bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms and a generous living area with kitchen and sofa bed.
Each typology has been designed around comfort, natural light and a strong connection with the surrounding landscape, with access to outdoor spaces and views towards the mountains.
MELODY Collection becomes a project where music, architecture, interior design and landscape follow the same rhythm.
